Somerville Journal (Somerville, Massachusetts) | August 25, 2007 New Car Product Reduces Harmful Emissions—and Fuel Costs.
If you could save money on gas and help prevent global warming for only $150, wouldn’t you? Sherri Anderson did and has no regrets. “It is really great,” she said of a new product that could revolutionize America, currently being sold only at Ideal Automotive Services in Davis Square. Anderson was the first customer to have the Sabertec Blade fitted onto her exhaust pipe last October and swears she has been getting better mileage out of her 1997 Honda since. She would know as she has a good commute to her workplace at Somerville every day from Framingham. “I think I went from 25 miles per gallon to 31,” she said. “I think the less gas you use, the better it is for the environment.” The Blade is an aftermarket automotive patent-pending product developed in Brazil that decreases emissions of air pollutants and greenhouse gases and increases fuel efficiency. “This is the greatest thing since sliced bread,” said Manager Skip Hansen of Ideal Automotive that is selling the product exclusively along with Woodward’s Auto Parts Express in Brockton. He has two of the pipe-shaped metal filter attachments on his Chevy pickup and can’t think of any reason why people wouldn’t want to buy it. Sabertec CEO and founder William J. O’Brien, of Brockton, also has two of them on his truck. “If all the cars and light duty trucks in the United States were to install the Blade, annual man-made carbon dioxide emissions would be reduced by more than 231-million metric tons. That’s the equivalent of taking approximately 50 million passenger cars off the road,” he said. “The Blade is a driver’s best defense against rising gas prices and the threat of global warming.” The Blade works by affecting a vehicle’s catalytic converter, its oxygen sensor, and its central processing unit, without requiring modification to a vehicle’s motor, or other internal components. It increases the efficiency of the internal combustion process and decreases the amount of fuel that is burned during combustion. The results include lowered emissions of harmful gases like carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, carbon dioxide and methane. It also significantly increases fuel economy and decreases exhaust noise. Lab tests indicate that fuel economy was increased on a 2004 Honda Civic by as much as by 2.7 miles per gallon city, and by 5 miles per gallon highway. With no advertising so far, Ideal Automotive has sold 21 Blades in a week and Hansen has no doubt he can sell many more. “You get a lot of skeptics about the claims, but with my 27 years of experience, I’ve found there isn’t any other product that can do what the Blade does to lower emissions and increase fuel economy,” he said. “I’ve been testing it to learn why it does what it does… but universally, I’ve seen nothing but positive results.” O’Brien hopes to catch not just the folks who want to save money on gas or those that are environmentally conscious, but also the vast majority that don’t really do anything for the environment. This is a green product that should win hearts all around, he hoped. “There is a lot of interest in the product and we are very excited about the initial responses,” he said. Available in chrome and black, the Blade fits easily onto most exhaust pipes but Ideal Automotive can install it for you for an additional $50. You can also buy the item online at www.bladeyourride.com. The filter turns a filthy black in about 3,000-5,000 miles, depending on what and how much you drive and can be easily replaced for $19.99. It’s well worth the money, because you’ll recover the cost from your gas cost savings in a couple of months, O’Brien pointed out. “There are very few products out there that give such a quick return on your investment and will then make you money,” he said. “If you want to make a difference and make a change, you need to get one.” Joan Makepeace, a customer of Ideal Automotive Services and a Harvard University researcher agrees. “The Blade was installed in a mere 20 minutes and I’ve been enjoying increased fuel economy with every fill-up, ranging from 10 percent to over 27 percent, all the while knowing I’m doing my part to help clean up the environment. It’s a no-brainer to green up the environment and your wallet at the same time.” |
