Innovative Devices Will Reduce Harmful Diesel Emissions and Save Fuel

The North American company Sabertec launched today two innovative air pollution control devices that also help to save fuel.

The first device helps to reduce fine particulate matter (PM 2.5) produced by diesel fuels by up to 70 % according to tests carried out on vehicles at the  Laboratory of Experimental Air Pollution, School of Medicine, University of Sao Paulo.

Sabertec CEO, Bill O’Brien, said the impact diesel particulate filter (IDPF) “could mean a significant progress for cities like Santiago, where a large part of air pollution is produced by PM 2.5 generated by mobile sources of diesel, such as buses and trucks”. He added that this is an opportunity to improve air quality given that fine particulate matter is one of the most hazardous pollutants to human health.

According to its manufacturers, in contrast to catalysts, the IDPF does not convert particulate matter into carbon dioxide (CO2), one of the gases that contributes to the hothouse effect. The easy-to-install filter can be used in a variety of operating conditions.

The second of Sabertec's devices, known as Blade, reduces hothouse gas emissions and allows vehicles to save up to 35 % on gasoline.

This new technology decreases emissions of hydrocarbons and carbon monoxide (CO), both of which have a direct negative effect on human health. It also reduces emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides (NOx) and methane (CH4), all of which contribute to the hothouse effect and global warming. The Blade’s emission test data was certified by Lactec one of the world's most sophisticated and premier emissions testing laboratories.

The filters install easily on any vehicle with electronic injection and do not require any changes to the vehicle's engine or gas system in order to work.
